Yesterday, March 21st, on a cold but clear day, Banana Kelly, along with its partners, Workforce Housing Advisors and Monadnock Construction, sponsored the grand re-opening of the Kelly Street Apartments.  These five buildings, home to 79 families, were among the very worst buildings in the city, plagued by an abusive owner/speculator who allowed the buildings to fall into severe disrepair after pocketing millions in mortgage proceeds intended for upgrades and repairs.

But that was in the past.  Yesterday was about celebrating the future.  Joined by HPD Commissioner Mathew Wambua, Councilmember Maria del Carmen Arroyo, Deputy Inspector Rivera, Bronx Community Board #2 District Manager, Rafael Salamanca, representatives from Council Speaker Quinn (Brendan Cheney), Congressman Serrano (Anthony Jordan), and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr’s office (Wilhelm Ronda), friends, supporters, and others, the newly renovated project on what is now a rejuvenated block, was officially opened.
