Two Salary Levels

The jobs are at two levels. Level I pays at a rate of $35,804 to $47,700. Level II pays $42,967 to $52,750.

Transit Customer Service Specialists, under supervision, respond to customer telephone calls using the TripPlanner application to provide travel itineraries by bus, subway and rail throughout the region. Specialists assist customers who call with reduced-fare, MetroCard and safety issues, commendations and complaints. They also enter data into the Customer Relations Management computer system, and use it to investigate and respond to customer inquiries.

To qualify, you must have one of the following credentials:

• A bachelor’s degree; or

• An associate’s degree and one year of full-time experience in a customer-service or public-information job; or

• A high-school diploma and two years of full-time experience in customer service or public information.

Skills Required

NYCT is also looking for:

Mail requests for applications must be received at DCAS Application Unit, 1 Centre St., 14th floor, New York, N.Y. 10007, with self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope no later than seven days before the filing deadline. Applications must be returned by mail postmarked on or before the filing deadline. Filing fees range from $40 to $101, depending on title and salary, and are payable online by credit or bank card, or by money order only if applying by mail.

CUNY: By the close of the filing period, applicants must complete the entire application either online or on paper. Online applications are strongly recommended. Applications are not accepted in person at any CUNY school. MTA NYCT/MABSTOA: In person (except where specified), 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, at MTA NYCT/MABSTOA, Division of Human Resources, 180 Livingston St. (Lobby), Brooklyn N.Y. 11201. Apply online or download examination notices at http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/appexam.htm. Promotional exams may be applied for online on the employee intranet at https://myaccess.nyct.com. Filing fees range from $40 to $101, depending on title and salary. If you apply on the Internet, you can pay the filing fee with a bank card, credit card or prepaid debit card. If you apply by mail, you must use a money order made out to MTA NYC Transit (Exams).

NASSAU COUNTY: To view examination announcements or to download an application form, go to www.nassaucivilservice.com. Applications can also be obtained in person at the Civil Servie Commission office at 40 Main St., Hempstead, N.Y. 11550, 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, or requested by mail at the same address. Applications fees must be paid by money order or certified bank check. The fee is generally $40. Most jobs are restricted to Nassau County residents.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY: Administers exams for jobs with the county and with some localities in the county. Examination announcements and application forms are available at https://exams.westchestergov.com. Forms also may be picked up at or mailed to the Westchester County Department of Human Resources, Suite 100, Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10601. Application fees ($25 per test) are payable by check or money order.

STATE: In person, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, New York State Civil Service Department Community Outreach Center, 163 West 125th St., Manhattan, telephone (212) 961-4326, and at Labor Department Community Service Centers. Mail requests to New York State Department of Civil Service, Alfred E. Smith State Office Building, Albany, N.Y. 12239, telephone (518) 457-6216. Filing fees range from $15 to $60. STATE COURT SYSTEM: To view examination announcements and submit an application, please go online to www.nycourts.gov/careers/exams.shtml. There is a $30 filing fee for open-competitive exams and no filing fee for promotion exams. Applications may only be submitted during the open filing period for an exam electronically.
